Water 4 All Headquarters Groundbreaking, by Emma & Stella

December 9, 2020

Today, the 9th of December 2020, marks the groundbreaking ceremony of a Portland-based company's dream: A seawater desalination facility on the coast of Morocco called Water 4 All. In a recent interview, Sasha McPattersen, the company's CEO told us, "We at Water 4 All believe that everyone has the right to have access to clean, drinkable water. So we are taking on the challenge of supplying rural towns in Africa with a steady supply of clean drinkable water. Like an ocean current, we know that if we work for the good of others, many will do it too."

In 2013, 780 million people lacked access to clean water, and since then the number is getting even bigger. Many families are forced to drink dirty water. In fact, every 20 seconds, a child dies from a water-related illness. Water 4 All aims to change that. Their planned solar-powered facility would produce 2 billion gallons of water a week. Water 4 All would hand them out in reusable jugs once a week. That water is enough for all 1.033 billion people in Africa to get about 2 pure gallons of emergency water every week! The water would be driven from the coast of Morocco in carts pulled by camels to hundreds of towns and cities.

Unfortunately, every town or city may not get water every week, so there may be people who still don't have enough water. Water 4 All asked a young Sudanese girl named Asha what she thought about this concept. She said, "In my village it is always hot, and there is never enough water. Many have died because of dehydration. Lots of families are forced to get all their water from polluted streams and get sick. I know that if my family members each got two gallons of water per week, it would make all the difference."

So today, as the main office building for Water 4 All is starting its construction, we honor Sasha McPattersen and her crew for their dedication to help others in need of water. As Michael Jackson once said 32 years ago, "If you wanna make the world a better place, look at yourself and make a change!"

That change is you. Water 4 All isn't the only association with this dream; many others have it too. If you would like to help and donate to people in need of clean water, donate today to http://thewaterproject.org/donate.php, http://www.water4all.org/us/,<http://www.water4all.org/us/> or http://www.unicefusa.org/campaigns/tap-project/ and many more organizations. We all can help with water deprivation.

  1. Hi, I'm Jake from Punahou School. I really enjoyed reading your article about Water 4 All. I am really interested in the topic of water because I personally created a PSA on water deficits and my class is working on figuring out alternate policies relating to water conservation. I'm really glad to hear about others who and help the less fortunate. Keep up the good work!
