The World in Hunger, by Dylan & Finn

August 24, 2020

"Families in developing countries are starving while we in the U.S. have too much to eat. Does that seem right?" reporter Elliot Burninghame asked this morning on local TV.

There is a way to stop world hunger. The World Hunger Association (WHA) has started a fundraiser to help children in need. WHA feels that every being deserves to be equal. WHA is paying a fortune to jumpstart this cause, and they encourage others to help too.

In 2019 the U.S. consumed more food than all the countries in Africa combined. There are roughly 925 million world citizens who go undernourished on a daily basis, consuming less than the recommended 2,100 calories a day. Almost 1 in every 15 children in developing countries dies from hunger. In 2010, an estimated 7.6 million children, more than 20,000 a day, died from hunger. And out of the rest of them, more than 20% are underweight for their age.

"Everyone deserves a chance," Elliot states, "But for now, give thanks so that you can pass on your good fortune."

  1. This post really opened my eyes to how much Americans are consuming to the rest of the world. We always say "I'm hungry" or "I'm starving", even though we've never really starved before. It's very disappointing to see how little other people from other nations are eating compared to the US, and this post really made me aware of the common global problem.
