Flood Fix, by Ezra & Khulan

December 13, 2020

Last night, the night of December 12, 2020, the Oregon Coast flooded and forced many residents to leave. Earlier our reporter talked to Joey, a local. He was shaken by the fact that this flood nearly wiped out his city, Seaside.

"It was the worst flooding I've ever seem," he told us with glum feeling, "and I've lived here all my life."

He is not the only one concerned about the flood. There are still debates about the cause of the flood. Some people believe it was the rain's fault, but others are arguing that there was not enough rain to cause any problems. People think that it may have been caused by rising oceans from the Arctic Sea. The oceans have been rising for the last decade due to global warming melting the world's icebergs.

Floods can be caused by extreme rainfall or big waves hitting land and not being able to get back to the ocean. Entire cities have been covered in extreme cases, as with Manhattan in 2018 and Venice just last year. Sometimes they have been caused by melting snow or ice causing water to rise. In this case, it scientists confirm that the worldwide water level is due to rising sea levels caused by global warming

"My god, that was intense! I looked outside and the water was up to the door of my house," says one of the locals we interviewed.

Some ways people on the world's coast have tried to protect themselves from floods include creating sand dunes to block the water from shores and boarding up the windows and blocking entrances of their homes. Earth's seas continue to pound our world's coastlines, however. The best way to prevent flooding is to lower Earth's temperature by cutting down on carbon dioxide emissions.

  1. Hi I'm Sean from Punahou School

I liked how you gave different types of points that could cause this problem and how you gave different places. And your information points are well written as well.
