Fixing Fracking, by Khulan

Process of Hydraulic Fracturing (Hydro-Fracking)

October 2, 2020

Dori Daniels, the leader of the anti-fracking campaign Beyond Oil, is trying to save the world. Last night I interviewed her about her ideas of how we can help stop fracking.

"Fracking digs up the earth to get at the oil underneath the ground, and it puts heavy chemicals into our air and soil and water. I haven't even mentioned how much energy it takes to refine the dirty oil gained from fracking or the energy it takes to then distribute that refined oil around the world. Fracking uses far more energy, and therefore creates far more global warming, than the energy it creates from capturing then refining dirty oil. It simply makes no sense to pollute our soil, water, and air so that we can increase the global temperature even more."

We can stop this before it gets to that breaking point. Daniels encourages us to write to our senators and elected officials to tell them to give tax breaks to alternative energy companies that have moved Beyond Oil. Her anti-fracking campaign assists companies willing to move beyond oil by helping them partner with other clean energy suppliers who source energy using wind turbines and solar energy.

  1. Hi,
    my name is Emi,

I found it very interesting about how it gathers unrefined oil, and how it seems to be a very tedious and complicated task when there are probably are much more environmental healthy ways. I liked how you made it very clear that they had put unpleasant chemicals into the Earth. I appreciate the effort and detail put into this subject. I also think that it is a great picture to use because it helped me with a visual.

I never knew what a fracking was but now I know and what a big deal it is. and how it helps up. Your information helped me understand what was the problem and how we can fix it.
