Overpopulation, Maansi & Audrey

April 8, 2020

There are 8 billion people on the planet, and that means we need a lot of food, but getting enough food for everyone is not possible if we remain inactive. We interviewed Savannah Morgan, a professor at Navdanya University in Dehradun, Uttaranchal, India, who has been researching global population, and she says that, "There is a possibility that we may not be able to sustain all of Earth's inhabitants with food." This year, 2020, we know that these problems exist, and we don't want to run out of food anytime soon, or make any other problems bigger. Savannah suggests, "We should respond to the problem of global warming and hunger by letting people know about this problem so that they can take action. We have the technology and intelligence to solve this problem."

Now, you just need to do one more thing. Spread the word.

Backyard Garden
It has been estimated that by 2050, there will be 9.3 billion people, and by 2100, there will be 10.1 billion people. The world population is growing by 74 million people per year, and more people means more food. Can we grow enough food for everyone? Professor Morgan suggests that we, "Support organic agriculture. It's a source of safer, healthier, tastier food. We have to use fields to grow food for everybody on the planet."

Having your own backyard garden can change things as well. Grow your own food. You can feed yourself! You can just get food right from your very own garden and you don't have to go and drive somewhere to get food, which contributes to global warming. If we can grow more food, then we don't have to worry about overpopulation. The main concern is having enough food, and if we achieve that, we're OK.

  2. Hi, I'm Kiana. :D The video you used was very interesting and informing. Over population is a big problem that adds to our other world problems such as hunger and water deficits. It is important that we keep our population at a level we can supply for. Good job!
